I just have to get it out 'cause no one will ever believe this story. Guess what I just spent the last two hours doing. Go ahead, guess. I was trying to help the four Jehova's witnesses who got their car stuck in my yard. Not even my driveway, but my yard. Two guys and two women. The guy driving, I don't remember his name, said he was trying to park where the ladies wouldn't have to walk through the mud. Turns out they had to walk through the mud to the neighbor's house to get help so we could get them unstuck.

I'm kinda sore 'cause they came here and bothered me and put huge ruts in my yard, and gave John twenty bucks for helping to get them out. And they used my whole phone card. But it's a funny enough story that I don't mind that much.

What makes it even better is that I had to coach the guy out of hte driveway, he almost got stuck again on the way out. Mary and Deanna were nice enough, though, and they got the hint quick enough about me not really being interested in their sales pitch. We had a nice chat and got some sunshine in the process. I feel really bad about calling on John again, I only seem to go see him when I need help. I think next time I bake something I'll have to take him sone. Maybe a nice batch of snickerdoodles.

Four Jacks and three Fives. That's my irritant of the day. I am, of course, talking about computer Solitare. I hit F2 to deal a new hand and spread across my 'table' were four Jacks and three Fives. As an optimistic person, I tried to play the game out, hoping I would at least get a decent score, even if I coudn't finishe the game, but no such luck.

But the thing is, most people wouldn't bother to try. They would just hit F2 again and get a fresh set of cards. I had to try, despite knowing it was likely hopeless.

I think there's a problem with that attitude, though. It's easy to spend too much time on hopeless cases.

Feb. 22nd, 2007 07:09 am What Season is it Again?

Who would have thought that better weather would be depressing? And, at the same time, it kinda isn't. I'm falling back into the patterns of last summer, and surprisingly easily, at that. I can barely remember that it's supposed to be february, still. it feels like last July.

But it's not such a bad thing, because last July wasn't really so bad, most of hte time. I had a few bad days, because of everything that was going on (see previous entries if you're still confused) but the summer was beautiful and sometimes it was really nice. I just relaxed and ounged and enjoyed the sunshine. I even got a really nice tan and maintained it. I showered every day out in the sunshine in the cool water from the hose... It was almost like those tropical vacations you see advertised with beautiful women bathing under waterfalls and drinking things out of pinapples with little umbrellas sticking out.

I'm also feeling kina hopeful that this summer will be even better. Maybe I'll have a job (maybe just two or three days a week wouldn't be so bad...) and a car and maybe, just maybe, even a boyfriend... Oh that would be nice, a real boyfriend. I'd like to do those sorts of things, for once.

But I really do need to remember that it isn't summer yet. It's still february and it's cold most of the time. And I really should start putting wood in the stove regularly.

Nov. 14th, 2006 04:32 am Ramblings of a geek (maybe a nerd) on the subject of fanfiction.

It occurred to me today that I'm a geek. Well, I've known I was for a long time, but sometimes I get the reconfirmation and I have to step back and think about it for a moment. This is one of those moments. So, geek (or possibly nerd) rant ahead!

Oct. 30th, 2006 10:35 am Growing up, I think.

You know you're grown up when you've just finished decorating a birthday cake (which means pieces left over from levelling it that you can cover with left over icing and eat as much of as you want, and you make a ham sandwich for lunch instead.

*sigh*  Not only that, but I've got a whole stack of pieces left over 'cause my oven isn't level and tons of icing becauset he stupid colors wouldn't come out right.  Plus I've got at least two lkinds of chips, packages of oreos and a whole bunch of other junk... and I'm eating a ham sandwich on whole wheat bread with celery sticks.  Wors, I'm not doing it out of some sense of health or because I'm worried about my waistline (I've reached the point where I can't really bring myself to care anymore) or anything like that.  No, I'm eating ham and celery because I that's what I really want.  And I'm drinking water because none of the soda's sound even remotely appealing.

I want to be eight again and enjoy pigging out on junkfood and stuff.  Only I want the ability to acquire it that I have now.

And for some reason my computer keeps playing Frank Sinatra songs. I wasn't aware I even owned any Frank Sintra songs. *scratches head*

Sep. 29th, 2006 03:56 pm 9/11, quite a bit late. But it's worth it.

When the subject of 9/11 comes up, I typically roll my eyes, sigh heavily, and make a 'go ahead' gesture to whoever is talking.  It's recent enough that everyone has an opinion and everyone was there, but far enough in the past that the worst of the terror has faded.

*Puts away megaphone and steps down from soap box*  All that came from a post I just read that actually has little to do with my latest rant.  liz_marcs wrote a post that articulated many thoughts I have about 9/11 and society in general that I have never been able to communicate on my own.  Read her article:

I remember Townsend.

This is exceptionally well written and I intend to save it so that when, someday, I'm a great grandmother and my grandchildren ask me about any of the world events I'll have lived through by that time, I can pull out this post and leave them with the feeling that I'm much more eloquent than I really am.

Sep. 3rd, 2006 08:53 pm Book meme

I found this through lirasnape who blames tarie...  I just thought it was an interesting thing to do.

I actually have quite a stack of books to choose from since I was doing HP-Fandom stuff... but I think I'll pick the only two in the room that have nothing to do with Harry Potter.

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
5. Don’t you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest

Get off the Unicorn by Anne McCaffrey
"In approximately five hours, the eye of the mach-storm would be centered over the gigantic old volcano whose mouth formed a twenty-kilometer wide lagoon.  The shards and lava plateaus of it's slopes were like a glalactic-sized crown, thrown down just above the equator of Welladay in the shallow meadows of the western seas.
Murv could hold up in the deep beyond the island's shores -- safe enough even with a mach-storm lashing into the ocean -- until the eye of the storm covered the Crown."

Now if that doesn't want to make you read the book I don't know what will!  I can see how this challenge might be interesting.  I think I'm going to use it next time I'm at the bookstore...

The other book was a Star Wars book but the appropriate lines aren't in English, so I'm skipping it.
